You can now have a tour of the renowned Sistine Chapel in the comfort of your own country in the upcoming months. The widely acclaimed exhibition, “Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel: The Exhibition” will start in the United States before it ventures out internationally to cities such as Paris, Madrid, Singapore, Toronto and more, according to Artnet.

The exhibition will mirror the previous iteration that was held in New York’s Oculus Train Station in 2017 where full-sized replicas of Michelangelo’s famous Sistine Chapel frescoes will make its way to the various locations.

This new exhibition will utilise state-of-the-art technology to reproduce 34 pieces that the Renaissance master has created. The selected artworks will be recreated using the Giclée printing process on a nylon surface that is similar to a movie theatre screen.

The Sistine Chapel exhibition is produced by Special Entertainment Events, which has previously organised similar shows including King Tut, the Titanic, and Star Trek. The images of the artworks are shot by Austrian photographer Erich Lessing with the production expertise of Bridgeman Images.

Viewers will be able to examine these pieces up close unlike the actual Sistine Chapel experience where the artworks are located high up in the ceilings. Being located at eye level, the pieces can be examined more closely. The individual brushstrokes of Michelangelo can be observed as well as minute details, which might not otherwise be observed. Famous creations such as “The Creation of Adam” and the slightly smaller 40-foot-tall “Last Judgement” will be available.

Those who have visited the Sistine Chapel in Italy will remember that a no-photograph policy is strictly enforced within the building. But this exhibition will welcome visitors to take as many photographs as they want.

According to the event’s page, visits to the exhibition will typically last from an hour to 90 minutes and the prices start from US$20.

Here’s what you can expect at the coming Affordable Art Fair in Singapore

With even more art galleries representing works from around the world, the Affordable Art Fair is back in Singapore for its ninth Autumn Edition.

The fair will be open to the public from 16th to 18th November at the F1 Pit Building. Special exhibitions including the Young Talent Programme, #SPOTLIGHT Showcase, and Special Projects will be on display along with works from 600 artists.

Originally launched in the UK back in 1999, the Affordable Art Fair now takes place in nine countries and includes major cities such as London, Hong Kong, Singapore, and New York. The unique and friendly environments are paired with art priced below $15,000, while 75% can be purchased from less than $7,500.

The key to its longstanding success has not only been the affordable prices which bring out newcomers and seasoned collectors, but also Affordable Art Fair’s ability to present emerging artists next to the superstars of the art world.

This year will see an increase in the number of galleries from 70 to 80, along with 22 galleries from Singapore, out of a total of 48 representing Asia. There are 21 galleries exhibiting for the first time at the Affordable Art Fair along with 240 new artists.

Works range from painting and sculptures to everything from photography, new media, drawings, interactive installations, edition prints, street art, assemblage, contemporary calligraphy, to name but a few. Anything you see at the fair can be purchased on the day.

One of the highlights of the fair is always the Young Talent Programme. Launched in 2012 in association with ION Art, it has showcased 45 talented young artists. Each applicant must be below the age of 35 and be born or reside in Southeast Asia. Eight artists have been selected to showcase their art at the Affordable Art Fair this year.

On the upcoming Affordable Art Fair, Ms. Camilla Hewitson, Regional Manager Director of Affordable Art Fair said, “It is an honour to work in partnership with ION Art and to have experienced first-hand the determination and extraordinary talent of young artists living throughout Southeast Asia over the past six years. We look forward to continuing our support to enable this next generation of artists to develop their practice whilst helping to connect them with the art industry, collectors and the public for many more years to come”.

National Gallery Singapore Presents ‘Yayoi Kusama: Life is the Heart of a Rainbow’ Exhibition

No stranger to the vibrant and quirky world of art, it’s only fitting that Yayoi Kusama’s upcoming exhibition at the National Gallery Singapore is entitled ‘Yayoi Kusama: Life is the Heart of a Rainbow’. The exhibition of one of the world’s most influential artists in the 21st century, this retrospective is the first to see a congregation of Kusama’s works in Southeast Asia. Opening from June 9 to September 3, the exhibition invites audiences into the multi-dimension world of Kusama’s creative vision.

A champion of the Avant-Garde, Kusama is lauded for her signature polka-dotted artworks —especially on pumpkin motifs — as well as her breathtaking Infinity Room installations. Having worked with designers such as Marc Jacobs and luxury brand Louis Vuitton, Kusama’s works continuously inspire other art forms. The exhibition will feature over 120 of her works, which include interactive spaces, installations, sculptures and paintings. Amongst these are new pieces that have never been exhibited prior. Leading up to ‘Yayoi Kusama: Life is the Heart of a Rainbow’, one of her interactive installations ‘The Obliteration Room’ has been installed in the National Gallery Singapore as part of the inagural Children’s Biennale.

The main exhibition will take place in the Gallery’s Singtel Special Exhibition Gallery. An exploration of the influence of international artists such as Kusama, the exhibition will highlight how her works were able to reach across geographical boundaries to touch the lives of people all over the world. It will also look into the personal challenges Kusama faced, and how she overcame them to impact the art world.

Other than the main retrospective, the exhibition will extend across to workshops and programmes for all ages. These include a Curatorial Rountable for a discussion on the impact and influence on Yayaoi Kusama’s works. If you are up for creating your very own Yayoi Kusama inspired piece, sign up for Sunday Studio: Marbled Patterns. These marbling workshops are available at the Keppel Centre for Art Education at various timeslots.

A collaboration between the National Gallery Singapore and Queensland Art Gallery, Gallery of Modern Art, ‘Yayoi Kusama: Life is the Heart of a Rainbow’ will take place from June 9 to September 3. Opening hours are from 10am-7pm from Sundays to Thursdays and 10am-10pm from Fridays to Saturdays. Prices are $15 for Singaporeans and Permanent Residents and $25 for foreigners. Children enter free.
