Aston Martin Designs a Modernist Rural Estate Dubbed Sylvan Rock

Worth an estimated $7,700,000, the Sylvan Rock is a modernist rural estate located in the heart of the New York Hudson Valley. As the first-ever private residential estate designed by Aston Martin, in collaboration with S3 Architecture, this estate showcases what the brand describes as a strong marriage of design sensibility.

Aston Martin Designs a Modernist Rural Estate Dubbed Sylvan Rock

Through utilizing warm textures, and bold forms, the luxurious Sylvan Rock’s angular form blends seamlessly into its natural environment, accommodating exceptional privacy, with no single dominating façade. Regarded a rare example of a complete residential work of art, the Sylvan Rock lies just ahead of an unassumingly secluded 2,000 ft country road entrance, which winds past mature trees and impressive rock outcroppings.

Spanning across 55-acres of land, the architectural form of this residence appears to fold down into the landscape at different angles – as if the architecture was born of and catapulted from the environment. Clad in blackened cedar and curtain walls of glazing, the Sylvan Rock features a subterranean lair and custom-designed wine cellar, alongside an on-property Food Garden, a three-car automotive gallery garage, an 873 sq.ft. pool house, multi-functional guest house “pods”, and a treehouse.

From the insane beauty looks to the hidden messages behind the camp looks, here we list down 6 things you might have missed in Met Gala 2019.

EZRA MILLER AND HIS MAKEUP ARTIST STARTED TO GET READY AT 4 AM

Ezra Miller has found himself a team whose craziness matches his. The red carpet darling and makeup artist Mimi Choi has chosen one of Choi’s iconic kaleidoscope looks as their translation of ‘Camp’, where the eyes mirror one’s alter-egos.

Choi revealed that each of the eyes took about 200 steps and at least half an hour to be done.

LUPITA NYONG’O ‘S SALUTE TO BLACK POWER AND HUMAN RIGHTS

From her otherworldly Versace neon dress to drag-queen inspired makeup, Lupita Nyong’O is surely one of the campiest interpretation on that night. Little did we know that her teeny-weeny crowns were delivering an even more powerful message.

They were actually a salute to Black Power and human rights. The actress’s hairstylist Vernon François has later revealed that the golden raised fists were inspired by Lauren Kelley’s self-portrait “Pickin’” in 2007, which symbolises unity, solidarity.

TRACEE ELLIS ROSS REMINISCED LORRAINE O’GRADY’S ‘ART IS…’ IN 1983

Apparently, Lupita Nyong’O wasn’t the only one who honoured Black Power at the fete.

Tracee Ellis Ross, donning Moschino by Jeremy Scott, reminisced artist Lorraine O’Grady’s ‘Art Is…’ movement during African American Day Parade in 1983, where the performances joined the parade with gilded frames in their hands, inspiring people to see themselves as a unique artwork and raising the ‘racism in art’ at that moment.

ZENDAYA DROPPED HER GLASS SLIPPER, JUST LIKE CINDERELLA

Dressed up as Cinderella and Fairy Godmother in Tommy Hilfiger, Zendaya and her stylist Law Roach enchanted a magical moment on the pink carpet, where the Cinderella dress glowed up after Fairy Godmother sprinkled her magic.

And just when we thought we couldn’t expect more from the duo, Zendaya ‘dropped’ her glass heel on the staircase – our chronicle of real-life fairy tale is now completed.

RUPAUL THOUGHT DRAG WOULD BE WHAT EVERYONE GO FOR

Everyone was asking why didn’t RuPaul show up at Met Gala in his iconic drag look. Instead, she came as RuPaul Andre Charles dressed in a bold stripe suit with a gargantuan feathered shoulder.

And the god of drag herself has disclosed the reason: “I didn’t want to go in drag, because I thought it was going to be a sea of drag queens.” However it turned out not everyone put as much ‘effort’ as RuPaul has predicted.

Luxury Swiss watchmaker Patek Philippe celebrates its long history and prowess in watch making with a 10-day exhibition. The show, titled ‘The Art of Watches, Grand Exhibition New York 2017’ is slated to take place from July 13 to 23 at Ciprani 42nd Street. A showcase of the Swiss watchmaker’s 178-year-old history, the exhibition covers the tradition of haute horologerie and the brand’s heritage, giving visitors the chance to peak into the world of the last privately family owned Geneva Watch Company.

Watches and timepieces from 1530 will be put on show in a space of 13,218 square feet. The exhibition consists of 10 different rooms, each created to showcase different bits of history. Amongst these is the Napoleon room, which will display limited edition timepieces created specifically for the US market. For a trip back in time, visit the Museum room. Some of the greatest historical timepieces from the last five centuries, including the oldest timepieces to date will be put on view. Not to be missed is the Grand Complication room: Dedicated to Patek Philippe’s most complicated and innovative timepieces, this collection will no doubt showcase the brand’s mastery in horology.

Dive into the inner workings of luxury watchmaking by taking part in these activities. For a quick break, the Patek Philippe Café is a great place for rest and relaxation.

Patek Philippe Sky Moon Tourbillon

According to Jasmina Steele, the International Communication & Public Relations Director of Patek Philippe, the aim of the Grand Exhibition is to recreate elements of the company that will provide an unforgettable experience for each visitor as close as possible to the feeling Patek Philippe guests have when they visit the company’s manufacture in Geneva, The Museum, and the historical Salons on the Rue du Rhone. “By offering visitors an immersion inside the world of Patek Philippe, we really want to share our passion for watchmaking and hope visitors will come out of the Exhibition with a greater knowledge and appreciation of the art of watches”, says Jasmina.

Patek Philippe President Thierry Stern commented “From its earliest days, when our founder Antoine Norbert de Patek made his first journey to America in the 1850’s until today, the importance of America to Patek Philippe can be seen through our history exhibited in the Grand Exhibition in New York. Moreover, it is a tradition in my family that the owners of Patek Philippe train in the new world, following the path of my grandfather Henri who founded in 1946 the Henri Stern Watch Agency in the Rockefeller Center and my father Philippe, I trained in the US when I started in the company. I am very proud that American visitors will be able to learn more about the historic and contemporary ties between our company and the American market.”

The Art of Watches, Grand Exhibition opens on July 13 and will be open to the general public. Admissions are free of charge from 10am-7pm on Monday to Sunday, with extended evening hours on Thursday, July 20 from 10am-9pm
